Rockhurst University students traveled to San Diego to the 243rd American Chemical Society Meeting to share their work on two research projects under the direction of Dr. Chad Scholes and Dr. James Chapman. More than 16,000 attendees converged in San Diego to explore the Chemistry of Life theme that was the focus of the conference. Our student attendees participated in numerous high-quality technical presentations, networking opportunities and enjoyed San Diego’s attractions. Isabella M. Fuentes, Natasha L. Frost, Diepngan T. Nguyen, Kristen E. Mickey, Linh Thai, Alexandra Bellem, and Maranda P. Le presented their work as a poster titled “Characterization of the Chemical Constituents of Korean Herbal Extracts by Bioassay-Guided Fractionation”. Katheryne A. Scanlon, Melody I. Schaeffer, Jessica A. Lloyd, Kaela Severa, Christina Zanaboni, Lawrence A. Rudolf presented their investigations on tannins in a poster titled “Bioassay-guided Fractionation and Identification of Tannins Responsible for the Antioxidant, Antimicrobial, Growth Inhibition, and Cytotoxic Activities of Quercus Extracts”. Both presentations were very well-received and our students entertained the questions of meeting attendees for several hours during the invited scientific-mixer session and the discipline specific session.
